Selam. The name is Random Andom. I'm a writer, journalist, occasional blogger and urban explorer. I am originally from Eritrea, a small country in the Horn of Africa. After 30-years of bloody civil war with Ethiopia, my homeland gained its independence. My parents made a harrowing journey to America two decades ago where they came to Fargo, North Dakota or as I like to say the "Least likely place for an African." I was born in Fargo (although I don't claim it). I came to Seattle when I was 7. I never saw skyscrapers in my life, for some reason I thought we were in New York. Growing up in the low-income, immigrant community of White Center exposed me to racism, poverty and gangs. I’ve been fortunate to use my passion for writing to send me to some cool places: Florida; D.C. and most recently Chicago. I love to travel. I love learning about cultures. I’m also a public transportation junkie. So that’s pretty much me in a nutshell: a Modern Nomad.
This is how I spend my Saturday evenings: I read random blogs by clicking "next blog." It's fascinating how we can connect with people from many walks of life.
